What we have done so far ...

So, last week we began filming the scenes that were to be filmed inside school grounds. The shots with 'Lilly-Rose' and Aiden' were really funny to film! We found it quite difficult to film them walk into eachother, the books to drop and them to have a 45 second conversation because we kept laughing! Therefore, we have a lot of editing to do to make it all run smoothly, but it's going well so far! :-)
This week, Danielle and I are going to film the rest at home , and them edit them next week in time for the deadline, 9th December. See you soon!

Script

So, after talking about what we wanted to be in our script, we realised there is about 45 seconds of speech. After they have bumped into each other, they then begin talking and continue talking later on the day online, therefore, the script is short!

(Aiden and Lilly-Rose bump into each other,  drop stuff on the floor and bend down to pick it up)
Aiden: Oh, I'm sorry..
Lilly-Rose: Sorry, I was in a world of my own there.
(Aiden and Lilly-Rose both laugh nervously)
Lilly-Rose: I've never seen you around before
Aiden: That's funny... I've seen you.
(Lilly giggles nervously)
Aiden: I just moved here last week
Lilly-Rose: Oh, well, do you need anyone to show you around, show you where to go and help you out a bit?
Aiden: I was kinda' hoping you'd say that (nervously)
(Lilly-Rose's friend, Olivia, walks over)
Olivia: Come on Lilly, we've got a lesson to get to, we can't be late again (walks away)
Lilly-rose: Urm..sorry, I, I have to go. See you soon?
Aiden: Yeah- see you around.

So, here's our script! It's pretty short, and very to the point! Just enough to get our audience hooked and want to watch more! They want to find out what happens between them two! See you next time!

Questionnaire

So, we carried out a questionnaire and asked some people what they thought of our idea. Once we had told them our idea, we asked them the following questions:

What do you think of our final idea?

  • Liked it.
  • Thought it needed more work to it.
  • Good idea, can't wait to see the finished product!
What would you change about our idea, if anything?
  • It seems quiet quick, so, to break it down a bit, show them wearing different clothes on different days, and show the time.
  • I think it's a good idea, however I think they should talk more!
  • I like the idea, but i prefer musicals! Can't they sing or something?! ;-)
Which of the following names are better?
-'It's You' (2 votes)
-'The Day They Met' (1 vote)
-'Time Flys By' (0 votes)

Would you watch our movie?
  • Yes! It keeps you thinking!
  • I don't know if it's my type of film, but sure - why not?!
  • It sounds ok! So, yeah?!

Shooting Schedule
22/11/10 - planning on taking pictures of the shots to upload to our blog post about our notes.
23/11/10 - begin filming shot one and two, and hopefully the rest that also needs to be shot at school!
Between the 28/11/10 and 3/12/10 - we will hopefully finish filming at my house.
4/12/10 - 9/12/10 - editing it all together in time for it to be handed in on the 9th.

Characters:
Girl: Lilly-Rose (played by Danielle Comb)
Lilly-Roses' friend: Olivia (played by me, Becky Groves)
Boy: Aiden (played by Calum Jump)

Location Recce

Here is where we are planning on filming for our final media production.
Location:
Queensbury Upper School
Date & time of filming:
22nd November till 6th December 2010
What we will film here:
Here, we will film an establishing shot of the front of the school, and then will pan round to the school sign, introducing to the audience where it is being filmed.
Our findings:
  • The noise level of the location we're going to be using is quite loud, but we are going to film during the middle of the day, so therefore it would be quieter and there won't be many cars on the road due to work.
  • For health and safety, Danielle and I will have to make sure we stand not too close to the road as we run the risk of us getting run over.
  • We would have to make sure the lighting isn't too bright and too dark. Not too light because the light would reflect on the actual sign making it un-readable. However, if it is too dark, you wouldn't be able to see the school or the sign.

Location:
My house, in dunstable
Date & time of filming:23rd November till 30th December
What we will film here:
Here, we will film the girl walking down the road to her house, and then walking into the house. We will then film the girl in the house on her computer.
Our findings:
  • We will have to make sure that there isn't much background noise as you won't be able to hear her typing, which gives the full effect of the shot. Also because it would ruin it!
  • For health and safety reasons, we will have to have a person with the camera man to make sure they don't trip up over any cables, wires or props.
  • For lighting, when the girl is walking home from school, it would have to be getting slowly darker to show the time difference from her leaving school to her getting home. For when the girl is on the computer, it wouldhave to moderatly dark, with perhaps a little light. We need it dark ish so we are able to see the computer screen.
See you next time!

Final Idea

So, me and Dani have come up with our final idea! We have decided to do a Rom-Com for our final piece. Below, I will post a picture showing our plot idea's.

From what we have chosen about our ideas and plot, we then, again, looked at some more trailers to help us understand characters. We found out, from the trailers, more about what each of the characters are like in a
typical Rom-Com!

So, they we're our final ideas and character outlines!

But, to also help us with our research of Rom-Com films, we looked at two films and their opening sequence, so roughly about 5-8 minutes. The two films we looked at were Love Actually and Made of Honour. In both films, we focused on what camera angles were used and the type of light used and the sound.
Love Actually:
  • Zooms on main characters
  • Tilts
  • The camera's main focus is on the main characters
  • Arc shots
  • Tracking
  • Mid shots
  • Parallel sound
  • Long shots
  • Back lights, key lights and filler lights
  • Digetic sound
  • Cuts and Cross-Cutting
Made Of Honour:
  • Quite dark, perhaps key and back lighting
  • Tracking
  • Digetic sound
  • Tilts
  • Mid shots
  • The 180 degree rule is used a lot
  • Panning
  • Parallel sound
  • Long Shots
We have noticed that in both of the films opening sequences we have analysed that it mainly focuses on the more prettier main characters, a lot of the same shots are used and the light is usually mainly dark or quite natural! So, from watching both of the opening sequences of two Rom-Com movies, we are able to take away what type of shots, sounds, and typeof lighting to use to help the audience identify what type of genre it is! Also, from looking at these two films, we are able to identify waht type of audience our final piece would attract more. Out target audience is females aged 14 and above! :-) See you in my next post!

Initial Ideas (continued)

So, from all the pros and cons of each genre we looked at, here are some ideas that Danielle and I have come up with for each genre...

Horror Ideas:
We thought one of the characters could be possessed, harming the other characters and therefore putting them in danger. Once we thought of this idea, we looked at the trailer for "Let Me In", "Paranormal Activity 1&2", "Drag Me To Hell" and many more. We thought the film that best suited our idea would be Drag Me To Hell. The characters matched our idea of what we wanted them to be like. There was an innocent girl, a typical looking old lady who puts the curse on the young girl. Here is the link to the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUZTybLlWKI

Rom Com Ideas
Our ideas for this genre consisted of the typical handsome and charming funny male, and a pretty, nervous besotted girl that falls too easily in love! Like most rom coms, theres always the thought coming from the girl that it might not be her, but it is her! :) Once we had thought about this, we again looked at trailers and opening sequences. This time, we looked at "Love Actually", "Made of Honour", "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Valentines Day". Here is the trailer for "Valentines Day": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSS-QPdiiiY

Tear Jerker Ideas
For this genre, we thought about a character possibly losing either their mum or best friend, or boyfriend/girlfriend. We then thought about having the character visiting their gravestone, walking away crying. Whilst they are walking away, they have flashbacks showing all the good times they had with them whilst they were still alive. Then they would see people walking down the street, reminding them of their lost ones. We watched trailers for "My Sisters Keeper", "Notebook", "P.S I Love You". Here is the trailer for "My Sisters Keeper":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP4NxUFgFrs and the trailer for "P.S I Love You": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GNxdc-wlw4

Initial Ideas

During last week we had to research different types of genres and analyse each one with the pros and cons. We then had to think of ideas for our final piece. So, here is the pros and cons of different genres...
The pros and cons for Horror are:
  • It's effective and creates a sense of apprehension within the audience.
  • It grabs the attention of the viewer and makes them want to watch MORE!
  • Quite hard to achieve a good grade :(
  • It's hard not to copy ideas from other films leaving it unoriginal and predictable!
The pros and cons for Rom Com are:
  • You don't need too many actors to make an effective opening sequence.
  • There are always new ideas that you can use!
  • Finding a good looking actor that will help us!
The pros and cons for Tear Jerkers are:
  • You can use real life events that happen to you or in the media (newspapers, magazines or documentaries)
  • You know that you would appeal to the female audience as every women loves a good tear jerker! :'(
  • The fact that you might not get people crying = FAIL OF A FILM!
  • Thinking of the right storyline, actors, setting, script and name is really hard! :/
From these, the pros and cons of each genre we have looked at, we have come up with some storyline ideas! You can read about them in my next post! See you soon!
